Fast's car's
GPS record leads investigators to Skyway
July 12, 2007
MANATEE - Investigators have gathered
information from the location-tracking unit in the vehicle of a missing woman, leading them to search two more areas for clues
to her whereabouts.
According to Dave Bristow, spokesman for the Manatee County Sheriff's office, Susan Fast's
2008, pearl-colored Lexus sports utility vehicle had been driven to the southern end of Lorraine Road in Sarasota County and
to the northern end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Pinellas County.
"If the public remembers anything suspicious
in those areas between 6 p.m. Friday, June 29, to 3 a.m. Saturday, June 30, they should call us," Bristow said. "Especially
on the Skyway. People are usually around the fishing pier there and maybe just didn't think anything about it at the time."
The Lexus had a GPS tracking system, and this system recorded the car's movements when it is believed someone
other than Susan Fast was driving.
Fast's husband, Bruce, called authorities just after midnight June 30 to
report that he returned to the couple's Tara home from a trip to the Bahamas and found his wife and her SUV missing. The
SUV was found in an east Bradenton neighborhood that afternoon.
Investigators say the son of Bruce Fast, Thomas,
is a suspect in the case.
Thomas Fast is being held in the Manatee County jail on $100,000 bond on a concealed
weapons charge.
