TomTom files a photo-real
display patent for GPS

TomTom has filed a patent for an interesting new feature
for their in-car GPS devices.
The innovation seems to show a photo-real image, or a live (cached?) video feed
on the GPS unit's screen.
It's not clear exactly how this could be applied, but the thinking is that the
ultra real display could be used to show drivers exactly where to turn off.
This would be an improvement for sat
nav users who have trouble judging distances and therefore get confused with the "Turn in 50 yards/metres" instructions
which can be hard to gauge in built-up areas.
Or they could just buy the GPS "For Dummies" (link below)
that probably holds their hand and counts down for them...
