Asian’s First
Real Time Traffic GPS Navigation - MapKing(TM) Singapore
May 04, 2007
“Drive via an alternate
route when there is a traffic jam !”
The first “Real Time Traffic GPS Navigation” beta solution
is launched by MapKingTM in Singapore. It is the first in Singapore and the first among Asian countries. This is another remarkable
achievement of Singapore and MapKing. The “MapKing - Real Time Traffic GPS Navigation Singapore”
runs on Windows Mobile 5/6 Pocket PC phone devices equipped with 3G or GPRS wireless connection. Streamed from the intelligent
transport system of Land Transport Authority (“LTA”), Singapore, MapKing’s real time traffic server dispatches
traffic speed data to each device connected wirelessly on the road. At present, the data is updated every 5 minutes and the
first generation covers highways and major roads. The beta version for expressways exhibits at booth 1751, “The PC Show
2007”, SunTec City, Singapore from 31 May to 3 June. End users are allowed to select their lowest acceptable
real time traffic flow speed, e.g., driver can set to re-route to an alternate route when the highway traffic flow speed is
lower than 30km/hr. The beta software is now available for testing by major industrial partners. Real time
traffic information is a major component of an Intelligent Transport System which usually comprises of other components like
traffic information broadcasting, traffic camera video streaming, rapid response for emergency services, computerized signaling
and traffic flow management etc. CEO Stanley Wing-fai Ng is very delighted and proud of the launch. He mentioned
that the launch of “MapKing - Real Time Traffic GPS Navigation Singapore” was the result of a successful public
- private partnership in technological development. With support from LTA, Green Dot (government data hosting and distributor),
a team of engineers from MapKing’s headquarters and MapKing (Singapore) Pte Ltd successfully deployed the service efficiently.
Stanley foresees that navigation with real time traffic information will be the core value of the next generation of car navigation.
MapKing plans to expand the real time traffic services to other Asian countries in the coming years. Simon Goh, Director of
MapKing (Singapore) Pte Ltd treasures the partnership with MapKing in providing high technology services to Singapore. Simon
has been active in the navigation and GPS sector introducing different GPS and navigation solutions to the country for a few
years. “In the beginning, we used a Bluetooth GPS paired to a PDA. Now we have advanced to the next generation ahead
of other Asian countries.” Simon said. The public launch of “MapKing - Real Time Traffic GPS
Navigation Singapore” is anticipated in next quarter. The service will be rolled out on a service fee model and existing
