Meru Networks Introduces Precise, Zone-Based Security With New High-Fidelity Wireless Location Management Application

May 22, 2007

Partners With Leaders in Real-Time Asset Tracking and Wi-Fi Tags

Interop Las Vegas 2007 (Booth #1759) — Meru Networks, the leader in standards-based workplace mobility infrastructure for wireless voice (VoIP), data and video, today announced the Meru E(z)RF High-Fidelity Location Manager™ application, which provides precise location tracking and device management capabilities for enterprise customers. The new E(z)RF High-Fidelity Location Manager application, the latest addition to the Meru E(z)RF Application Suite, enhances enterprise wireless security by providing an additional layer of physical location-based security for wireless LAN networks. The Meru E(z)RF Application Suite also includes the Meru E(z)RF Coverage Planner™ and Meru E(z)RF Network Manager™ for deployment and management of the Meru Wireless LAN System.

Additionally, Meru announced partnerships with AeroScout and Ekahau, two of the industry’s leading providers of Wi-Fi tags and real-time asset tracking solutions. As part of its ongoing commitment to provide best-of-breed solutions, these relationships will enable Meru to provide its customers maximum flexibility in deploying complete, secure, asset tracking solutions integrated with the Meru WLAN System.

New Industry-Leading Location Accuracy and Security

The new Meru E(z)RF High-Fidelity Location Manager is a self-calibrating system that leverages the Meru WLAN platform to collect the data required for its precise location and security capabilities. The new application is extremely easy to deploy and does not need the costly and time-consuming system calibration requirements of older generation WLAN systems.

With Meru’s unique, fourth-generation architecture, accuracy in detecting clients is assured within five to 15 feet. For equivalent deployments, and utilizing the same number of APs as required by legacy WLAN systems, Meru’s E(z)RF High-Fidelity Location Manager is able to achieve higher location accuracy. This is because Meru customer deployments are typically done on a single channel span and yield three times more RF data points for each tracked client as compared to the three alternating channel deployments required by legacy WLAN systems.

In addition, Meru’s new software application adds an advanced layer of WLAN security and visibility by allowing network administrators to define multiple perimeter zones within a network site and set security access policies for each zone. Client devices within these perimeters will be allowed to access the network, while client devices that roam or are located outside of these zones will be denied access. Network policies are enforced such that any unassigned or “rogue” devices including laptops, PDAs, wireless VoIP phones and APs are prevented from interfering with normal network operation. Further, location-based security events are monitored and alarms are generated for security violations in the pre-defined zones, which are delivered to the network administrator via real-time notification schemes such as email and SNMP.

About Meru E(z)RF Application Suite

The Meru E(z)RF Application Suite — a key component of the Meru Mobile SCALE Solution — provides network administrators with applications for planning, RF visualization, locationing, centralized monitoring, fault management, reporting and configuration of enterprise wireless networks of all sizes. The Meru Mobile SCALE solution also includes Meru APs, Controllers, and System Director operating system. With Meru, organizations can easily and efficiently enable the All-Wireless Enterprise — a pervasive wireless infrastructure for business-critical applications, including toll-quality voice, high-capacity data and video.

“As more customers access mission-critical applications over enterprise-wide wireless networks, securing these networks in real time and locating high-value assets becomes the top priority for IT departments,” said Steve Troyer, vice president of product marketing, Meru Networks. “With the Meru WLAN System and the new Meru E (z) RF High-Fidelity Location Manager, we’re providing highly accurate location capability, increased security and a greater return on investment for our customers.”

Availability

Meru’s new High-Fidelity Location Manager will be available in June 2007 and is priced at $13,995.
